Happy September! September is national self-care month. For those Happy September! September is national self-care month. For those of you who are hard working self-care seems like a foreign concept but I'm here you tell you self-care is just as important as working hard and making money. Self-care is when you take time out to get in touch with yourself, enjoy the things you like, and incorporate activities that bring forth positive emotions in you. In this hectic world we hardly get time to enjoy our lives. We are consumed with jobs, families, crisis, bills, children etc. We rarely are giving to ourselves the time, attention and affection that we freely give to everyone else. To even state you want self-care in some people's eyes is considered selfish but I'm here to tell you self-care isn't selfish it's self-love.
If you've been reading these blogs you KNOW writing is my passion. You'd also know speaking is my way of venting. In my case I don't have the opportunity to take mini trips to the beach to soak up the sun and write my heart away because of time constraints and seasonal changes. However, I make it a priority to create these weekly blogs and to vlog once a week about various topics including a point about sexual assault. To me, that's my weekly self-care act. Not only am I in touch with myself when writing, I'm engage in the activity that I like and writing brings forth positive emotions but writing gives me balance. Balance when my job becomes overwhelming. Balance when the family is going through crisis. Balance when money is tight and the bills are due.
You see, everyone has their vices and everyone has their stressors that takes them off their square. Knowing what sets you back to center will help you deal with those stressors in this thing called life. The first step to self care is understanding your environment. The first step is what do you like to do (Apply the five W's and how. It helps puts things into perspective). The second step is what are you surrounded by and how does it make you feel? Lastly, incorporate where and when would be the best place to exercise your self care. Let's say you're an artist, specifically painting. Perhaps the best self-cafe practice for you is to paint at the park on weekends because you're off and the park brings you solace.
Whatever your self-care practice is make it a top priority for you to partake in it at least weekly. It could be your end of the week treat or mid-week vacay. People who have stress relievers or positive self care have a better sleep pattern, they have a better diet, and are less likely to have mental health issues. Your health matters so take care of it by implementing a self-care routine.
