We live in a world where everything is fast and it seems like there's just not enough time. Between family, career, goals, and aspirations it tends to be a sacrifice of one or the other. Something like, go for my dreams or play my mediocre role at my mediocre job in my mediocre life that I hate . . . mediocrity. It's hard to find a balance between now and the future. It's a balancing act that can be perfected with a few tips I live by here:
*schedule Schedule SCHEDULE
You can't schedule enough. I say this because when it comes to my daily life I wake up knowing exactly what to do and how to do it. Whether I have my agenda on my phone's clock. My calendar (both my laptop and phone) or written down (and entered as notes on my laptop) as well as sending emails to myself. I am always prepared and know what's next on my to-do list. Since my phone and laptop are my team right now, and most likely than not one or two of them are with me, it's best that they both have my agenda with start and end times. What I get done today, I don't have to do tomorrow and the way I operate if I can get it done today at 3:00 am. Yup, I'm staying up until 3:00 am. This leads me to my second tip . . .
Time is everything! Time is the only currency that you can't get back so how you spend it is really what determines the direction of your future. Think of it as building your future life. What you spend doing is how you're going to live. So procrastinating leads to, yup, you guessed it! MORE procrastinating. Active with a direction, again, you guessed it! A future worth living that's fulfilling. I spend the majority of my time building my future as an author. I could be typing, editing, and formatting simontaneously all in a day. Yes, my days consist of sitting in front of my laptop and fun to me is when I complete a task, but that doesn't mean I can't be fluid. More often than not, I have a youtube video playing in the background while I'm doing my work (the multi-tasker in me does this flawlessly) and if not a youtube video then music or facebook. I make my work priority number one but that doesn't mean I can't incorporate other things like eating yet they aren't my main focus and they don't consume the bulk of my time!
So often we get overconsumed with our day to day activities that we forget to make sure we still have a pulse. Relax! Life will still go on if you miss a day or two. It's okay to take a break and just enjoy doing nothing or pausing your workload for a nap, a date, or to eat Ferrero Rocher chocolates while watching Love Jones . . . oh, no? That's just me? Nonetheless, enjoy your life and breathe. It's just as important to be sane and happy as it is to reach your goal and live out your purpose.
*Be Happy 😃
No worries, be happy! I know so cliché and it has a nice rhythm. It's not just a song, it's life. YOUR life. Whatever you choose to do with it, be happy. Happiness comes from within and no amount of projecting your happiness to anyone will change that fact. You will only be setting yourself up for disappointment. This is a lesson that took me about 23.5 years to figure out (I'll be 24 on May 13th, 2016. I'll be more than happy to send you a physical copy of MEMOIRS OF A FORGOTTEN CHILD after your PayPal purchase. Shameless plug, I know.) Other factors can add on to your happiness, for example, your family, your job, your pet, and even something as basic and materialistic as a car but they can't be the center of your happiness because if you get a divorce or your children leave the nest then what? How about you get fired? Your pet dies? Your car slides off a cliff, lands in a ditch, and suddenly combusts into furious flames? Thank GOD you weren't in it and if all these things happen in the same week then you my friend, are officially having the worst week ever known to mankind and you need to ask your maker why has s/he/it/them forsaken you. But seriously, YOU need to be the captain of your life and that includes your happiness. If something doesn't make you happy leave it. It may be easier said than done, but I promise you, the longer you put up with dissatisfaction the more it eats at you and spreads feelings of inadequacy, depression, and emptiness. And you and I both know, ain't nobody got time for that! So, no worries, be happy and make your dreams come true!
Be Entertained. Be Enlightened. Be Loved. ✌
