Isis also known as Aset or Iset is an Egyptian Goddess from the polytheistic era of Egypt. She was first worshiped in the Ancient Egyptian religion and spread throughout the Roman Empire and all throughout the Greco-Roman world. Today Isis is worshipped worldwide by many pagans and different sub-religious groups.
Isis was worshipped and known as mother, wife the patroness of nature and magic. She befriended slaves, sinners, artisans and the hopeless, but she also heard the prayers of the wealthy, maidens, aristocrats and rulers. Isis is the mother of Horus and is depicted as the "falcon-headed deity." She is often connected with royalty such as the king and kingship. Not to mention, Isis is also known as the protector of the dead and Goddess of the youths.
The definition of the name Isis means "Throne." Isis's headdress is the throne, known as the personification it, and represented the pharaoh's power. The pharaoh is portrayed as her child, who sits on the throne (her lap). Her followers made Egypt the centerpiece for her worship, but her most important temples were located in Behbeit El-Hagar, in the Nile delta, but the influence of her follows began in Nectanebo I on the island of Philae in the north of Egypt. Isis's story is told as, she was the first daughter of Geb (God of the Earth) and Nut (Goddess of the Sky) and Isis was born on the fourth intercalary day. Isis married her brother, Osiris, and birthed their son Horus. Isis resurrected Osiris when he was executed by Set (his brother), she found his scattered body parts around the earth, and used her magical skills to put his body together.
This myth became a staple belief to the lifestyle of Greco-Romans. People believed that the Nile River flooded annually because of Isis's tears of sorrow when she cried over the murder of Osiris. Osiris's death and rebirth were re-enacted annually through rituals (many people associate this story as the originator of the birth of Jesus). `
